The MetaGog is the Internet Corridor by which Facebook (who’s parent company is now known as Meta) and Google as they enter the Metaverse. These 2 monoliths are already among the largest global companies and they reach into most homes through their tentacles of the likes of Instagram, Youtube, and the many others that they have built up and or acquired over the past decade and a half.

Now they are set to have a footprint in to almost every aspect of our lives. With the introduction of Artificial Intelligence and the new smaller and faster microchip technology giving us 3D and 5G capability leading us to the next stage in the Internet evolution. If you think that when the Internet was first introduced on the world stage was known as Web 1.0, then we we had the revolution of Smartphone which led to mobile phone apps and mobile optimisation which became Web 2.0, now we have the evolution still further with the introduction of this new technological advances and we are entering the Web 3.0 or more commonly known as the Metaverse.

The book from Douglas Adams ‘The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy ‘ is well known for mentioning that the answer was ’42’.  But what was the question – well when you look at today I would relate that possibly to the number  (possibly 42 or fewer) of corporate companies that can influence and peoples buying decisions and the means to purchase and interact with them. In Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, 42 is the number from which all meaning (“the meaning of life, the universe, and everything“) could be derived.

The major ones I can immediately list are Amazon, Ebay, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, Google and now we have Tesla and Pfizer but I am sure you can think of a good number of these giants and pretty soon you will get to a number closer to 42. But the one thing that unites them all is their ability to function, grow and influence global audiences using the Web.

But if this is the case what does it mean for smaller high street shop or online business store? If you are a business owner what can you do about it, how do they need to think about their individual future marketing strategy for their businesses.
